北九州YMCA学生紹介　Vol.11
第11回目は日本語学校のマレーシアからの留学生エドウィンさんを紹介します。

私が日本に来ることを選んだ多くの理由のうちのひとつは、自己改善と成長のために、快適な環境を抜け出し、いろいろなことに挑戦したいと思ったからです。日本の人々と文化は私を大変魅了しています。他の多くの人々も同様に魅了されていることだと思います。それゆえに、日本人たちの熱意や夢をより理解したいという気持ちになりました。私は人生においてなにか大きく、思い出に残るようなことをする動機を見つけることを望みながら日本に来たのが、正直なところです。そしてそれが実現しそうな気がします。日本語を修得した後、少なくとも自分の努力で2020年の東京オリンピックに参加するまでは、ここで生活し、貢献しようと決めました。この人生の転機となりえるイベント、東京オリンピックの組織チームの一員として参加するのが夢です。

私は5か月間ここに住み、文化の違いを毎日経験していますが、人はすぐに慣れるものです。文化の違いの一つは、ごみの捨て方です。私の国では、ごみを捨てるのに1分とかかりません。しかし、ここでは、家庭ごみ、プラスティック、びん、缶、と4つの分別をしないといけません。分別するのに約15分～20分かかります。来日したばかりなら、もっと時間がかかります。最も恥ずかしかった文化の違いは、洗濯機、エアコン、ATMの操作が分からなかったことです。ATMでは、機械にたくさん質問されますが、全然理解できませんでした。（google.com.に感謝しています。）

私は日本で、人との関わり方、ビジネスの技術、生き方や、創造性などを学びたいです。ずっとグラフィックデザインや創造的なものに興味を持ってきたので、いつかそれらも日本で学習したいです。みんなの目をひく奇妙な宣伝にも興味があります。

One of the many reasons why I choose to come to Japan is because I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and embrace all kinds of challenges that I have heard from many in light to grow and self-improve. The people of Japan and its rich culture really captivates me and I believe it captivates millions of other people as well, so much that it drives me wanting to further understand their passion and dreams. To be honest, I come to Japan hoping to find that motivation to do something big and memorable in life and I can feel that its very close. After my Japanese studies, I have decided to try to make a living here, contribute and make the most out it hopefully at the very least until I can attend Tokyo Olympics 2020 with my own effort. I also dreamed that I could participate in Tokyo Olympics 2020 organising team and help organise this life changing event.

After I started living here for 5 months, I have been experiencing constant culture shocks be it major or minor but you get used to it very quickly. One of the major ones would be their trash/recycling system, its easy to know about it than to do it because back in my country throwing trash is done less than 1 minute. Here, you need to sort your trash into 4 different categories which is Burnables, Plastics, Bottles and Cans. This whole process would take at least 15-20 minutes to get it done, more if you first move in to a Japanese home. The most embarrassing one is that at first I dont know how to operate their washing machine, air-conditioner, ATM and staring at the cashier because you cant catch the questions they asked you, believe me its not just one question, so thank you Google.com.

There are many things I want to learn in Japan such as people skill, business skill, survival skill, creativity and so on. I have always been interested in Graphic Design and Creativity so maybe one day I will get to learn them in Japan. I also like how they do their advertisements, weird yet eye-catching.
